Oriental Longhair cats have a Siamese style body but a longer fur than Siamese cats have. This is a domestic cat breed and formerly was known under the name British Angora. Only in 2002, the British fanciers renamed this cat to Oriental Longhair in order to avoid confusion with the Turkish Angora cat breed. Some cat fanciers though can refer to this cat breed as Mandarin or Foreign Longhair.

These cats are available in a variety of colors including simple colors such as black, white, blue, lilac, chocolate, caramel, cinnamon, red, fawn, apricot, cream, tortoiseshell, smoke, tipped or shaded. This cat breed also has large green eyes. White Oriental Longhair cats can have either blue or green eyes or can be odd eyed which means that they can have different colored eyes.

When we breed the Oriental Longhair with an Oriental Shorthair or with a Siamese breed, the kittens will all be shorthaired. From the other side, if the same kittens, when adults, are reintroduced in a breeding program, their kittens will all be longhaired.

They have a fine boned structure, long head in a shape of wedge, forming a triangle. The Oriental Longhair has very large ears, pointed and set wide on head. The neck is slender, the tail is long and the legs are thin and long. Eyes are almond shaped and medium. Males can weight from 7 to 10 pounds and females normally weight from 5 to 8 pounds.

Oriental Longhair cats are very active cats and like to play. It doesn’t matter whether they are playing with humans or just with a toy, this cat likes to be entertained. These cats love to jump, climb, while at the same time not failing to show off their elegance and agility.

Oriental Longhair cats are very intelligent and they enjoy company of people and other pets. They are loyal and they get along very well with other cats of the same breed. As for the grooming, regular brushing is necessary at least once per week.
