Highlander cats are a developing bred in the TICA (International Cat Association). The history of development of this cat breed is a bit of a mystery as it they don’t descend from any recognized cat breed. Even though these cats exist since 1993, the name Highlander was given to them only in 2004 to identify them as a unique breed. So, Highlander cats are a new and exciting breed of cats with very unusual characteristics that sets them apart from other cat breeds.

But there is one specific features that makes Highlander cats stand out from other cat breeds and that is their back curled ears. Their ears are placed on the top of the head and can have ear tufts and furnishings. Apart from that, another distinctive characteristic of Highlander cats is their naturally short tail (in some cases even 1 inch of length). Each tail is unique due to its kinks and curls.

Highlander cats are available in many colors and patterns except bicolour. They can have long or short hair, and their coat is resilient and thick, so even longhaired Highlander cats don’t require a lot of grooming. We can easily say that this cat breed is really unique in its fancy, especially due to its muscular body, curled ears and short tail.

Highlander cats have long hind legs and their body is heavily muscled. Their feet are large and with prominent knuckles to give them more stamina for which they are so well known. They have a long sloping forehead, and their nose is wide. Their specific look of nose, muzzle and chin gives them a boxy look of the muzzle, and all the mentioned features make their head appear longer than it is wider.

Highlander cats are very playful and love the company of humans. They have a very laid back, loving and playful personality. This makes them perfect pets for any household. They are high energy cats, but vocally they are very quiet.
