Burmese cats derive from the United States. The first brown Burmese were imported into the UK in 1948 and immediately experienced great popularity in exhibitions.  In 1955 appeared the blue variation of the Burmese cat breed and since then got many variations of coat color: light – purple, cream, ginger and chocolate.

The Burmese cats are actually a sort of domesticated cats divided into two subgroups – British Burmese and American Burmese. However, some of the earliest records of cats that resembled Burmese came from Thailand which was at that time known as Siam.

Burmese cats are medium- sized, muscular, and with straight back. The head is triangular shaped and short featuring broad cheekbones narrowing towards the muzzle, slightly rounded between ears. The chin is strong. The legs are sturdy and long with oval and soft paws. The tail is of medium length and thick, tapering to a rounded point. The eyes are big and bright, widely spaced. The ears are wide at the base, mid-sized and rounded towards the top. They are well spaced to one side so that the outside line follows the upper line of the face.

The coat of Burmese cats is thick and silky, short and joined to the body. Each individual hair is not evenly colored, but is basically darker towards the top. The recognized colors are: black, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream and tortoiseshell. Stripes, dots and white hair are not permitted.

Burmese cats are very flexible, accustomed to living in an apartment, but in the open as well. What makes them so desirable as a pet is their playfulness, and very social nature, which is especially evident in games with children. Burmese cats are known for their exceptional loyalty. However, sometimes they can be very stubborn and even aggressive, but not towards humans, but towards other cats from which they are able to skillfully defend themselves.

  • The Burmese Cat is a domestic cat that has two major classifications. The first one is the British Burmese Cat while the second is the American Burmese Cat. The former has a triangular face, a wedge-shaped head, and a pair of almond-shaped eyes. The latter has fuller face, short muzzle, and round eyes. It can weigh up to six kilograms and can live for about two decades. I love its glossy coat which is silky-smooth like satin. It comes in different colors including brown, chocolate, red, blue, lilac, and cream. They love people and they love playing even when they reach adulthood.
